Chapter 22 - 1922 - Independence - and Civil War

By 'Irish', from here on I refer the Irish who lived everywhere in Ireland except in the six northern counties, where Protestants were in the majority and which now had its Northern Irish Parliament. The Irish were apparently a One Party State now, for Sinn Féin held all the seats in the Dáil. But within Sinn Féin there were divisions. The most important players on the Irish team, or at least those whom history has painted as such, were Éamon de Valera, Michael Collins, Arthur Griffith, Cathal Brugha and Erskine Childers. We need to look at these people to understand the rest of the Story of Ireland.
